Re-think Your Insurance Claims

In the case of Michigan home insurance, most home owners with ample coverage can sit back and take comfort knowing that in the event the worst happens they are going to be financially covered for several tragedies that could occur. What many home owners don’t realize however is that a few small legitimate claims can increase the cost of their insurance in the future.

Insurance carriers operate by assessing risk and when they see at a homeowner’s claims history, seeing 4 or 5 (sometimes less) claims, raises some red flags. How can you avoid this?

One answer is to think about a higher deductible. This could make sense if you’re trying to cut back your expenses. Your premiums could be reduced if you decide to choose a larger deductible. That’s because smaller claims (those less, or not much higher than the deductible) would be taken care of by you. This reduces the risk to the insurer that you’ll be making several small claims in the future.

Has the price of your home insurance increased recently? There are many possible reasons for a rise, so if you’re concerned or need to reduce your costs, call you insurance agent and discuss the options open to you with your Michigan home insurance policy.
